Mel Schilling, a prominent relationship coach known for her role on the reality show Married at First Sight, has passed away at the age of 54. Her family confirmed her death on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, through a heartfelt statement shared on social media.

Schilling's husband, Gareth Brisbane, announced the news on Instagram, stating that she died peacefully, surrounded by love. "This is a woman who became a new mom and a TV star at 42 — and nailed both," Brisbane shared. He described her immense strength during her two-year battle with colon cancer, which she was diagnosed with back December 2023. "Through two years of chemotherapy, when she could barely lift her head from the pillow, she never complained and never stopped showing courage, grace, compassion, and empathy, and never missed a day of filming," he continued.

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Schilling was a qualified relationship psychologist who made her television debut on the Australian version of Married at First Sight back when it launched its second season. Her expertise and friendly demeanor quickly made her a fan favorite. She later joined the UK version of the show, which airs on Channel 4's E4, where she continued to inspire viewers with her insights on love and relationships.

Earlier this month, Schilling revealed that her cancer had spread to her brain, and she expressed her gratitude for the support she received from fans and loved ones. "If I could leave you with one thing, it would simply be this: if something doesn't feel right, please get it checked out. It might just save your life," she posted on Instagram.

Schilling's health struggles began with a colon cancer diagnosis, which led to her undergoing surgery to remove a tumor the size of a lemon. Following the surgery, she was initially declared cancer-free but later discovered small nodules on her lungs. Over the next two years, she endured 16 rounds of chemotherapy and was preparing to start a clinical trial when her condition worsened.

Channel 4, the network that aired Married at First Sight UK, expressed their sorrow at her passing. They released a statement praising Schilling's work, stating, "We’re privileged to be the channel that is home to Mel’s work, which was at the heart of Married at First Sight’s phenomenal success, both here and abroad. Mel radiated joy, warmth, and optimism, energizing every room she walked into with humor and positivity. Everyone who knew her will miss all this about her and much more."

The production company behind the show, CPL Productions, also paid tribute, saying, "Mel went far beyond being just a fantastic on-screen presenter; she was a friend to CPL, and to many of us who worked with her. Her loss today will come with tremendous sadness to all who knew her."

Brisbane, who married Schilling back on 2018, shared a touching message about their daughter, Madison, who is now 10 years old. He recounted a moment from her final hours when he thought she could no longer speak. "She ushered me closer and whispered a message for Maddie and me that will sustain me for the rest of my life. Even then, her only thought was for Maddie and me," he shared.

Schilling's death has left a void within her family and among her colleagues and fans. Fellow cast members from Married at First Sight UK expressed their heartbreak on social media. Charlene Douglas, a co-star, wrote, "I had the pleasure of spending time with Mel during her last days and will forever treasure the laughter, the memories, and love we had for each other. Mel’s love for life, jokes, and of course dancing will forever stay with me."

Throughout her career, Schilling was known not just for her professional insights but also for her personal warmth and generosity. Her family’s statement captured her spirit: "Life can be beautiful, and life can be incredibly cruel. But, life is fleeting, fragile, and tomorrow is promised to no one. If you can do anything to honor Mel, please live life to the full, love your people well, and try not to sweat the small stuff." This poignant reminder of her outlook on life resonates with many who were touched by her story.

Mel Schilling's legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire those who knew her and those who watched her work on television. Her commitment to helping others navigate the complex world of relationships, combined with her personal strength and resilience, has left a lasting impact on both her family and the broader community.

She is survived by her husband and daughter, who will carry her memory forward.
