Inspired by Día de los Muertos, the revamped jerseys feature a darker palette and cultural motifs.

The San Diego Padres have officially unveiled their new City Connect 2.0 uniforms, featuring a fresh design that pays homage to Día de los Muertos. Released early Thursday morning at Petco Park, the new look showcases a shift from the bright mint and pink tones of the previous iteration to a more muted palette dominated by navy blue and orange.
Set to debut on Friday, April 10, 2026, against the Colorado Rockies, these uniforms will be worn for every Friday home game throughout the season, as well as during the Mexico City Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks later this month. The Padres' new deep navy (dubbed obsidian) pullover jerseys prominently display a white 'San Diego' wordmark across the front, replacing the previous pink-and-mint split.
A standout feature of the new design is a sleeve patch depicting La Catrina, a skeletal figure adorned with a floral crown, symbolizing the Día de los Muertos celebration. This patch, along with the sublimated marigold pattern on the pants, reflects the cultural significance of the holiday, which honors deceased loved ones on November 1 and 2. The marigold flower, integral to Día de los Muertos, symbolizes joy and the beauty of life.
The new caps are another notable change, transitioning to a bone-colored base with an interlocking 'SD' in marigold and obsidian, paired with an obsidian bill. This replaces the previous mint-and-pink caps that had become popular among fans. The Padres will also sport obsidian batting practice caps on City Connect nights.
In many ways, the Padres’ new look draws parallels with their National League West rivals, the Diamondbacks, who recently updated their City Connect uniforms. The Diamondbacks maintained their cursive wordmark but shifted their jersey color from sand to purple, reminiscent of their earlier designs.
This latest uniform release is part of a broader trend in Major League Baseball, where teams are cycling through new City Connect designs in collaboration with Nike. The first City Connect uniforms were introduced in 2022, aiming to incorporate local culture and heritage into team apparel. Other teams, such as the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies, have also made notable changes to their City Connect gear, moving away from their original vibrant palettes to more subdued tones.
The Padres' decision to embrace a darker aesthetic aligns with a growing appreciation for the cultural narratives that sportswear can convey. The updated look reflects the team's identity and emphasizes the importance of community and tradition within the San Diego area.
As anticipation builds for the new uniforms, fans are already buzzing about the significance of the design elements. A teaser video featuring local wrestler Dominik Mysterio was released in November, hinting at the upcoming uniforms and generating excitement among the fanbase. With the official reveal now complete, the Padres are set to make a statement on the field that honors their heritage and the vibrant community they represent.
Mark your calendars for April 10, when the Padres will take the field in their new City Connect uniforms, blending tradition with modern design in a celebration of culture and community.
